Telegram and WeChat Begin Licensing for Malaysia Compliance

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced that Telegram and WeChat have initiated the licensing process required for social media platforms in Malaysia. Starting January 1, 2025, platforms with over 8 million users must apply for a license to enhance online security and user protection. MCMC praised both companies for their compliance efforts, while warning that failure to obtain the license could result in fines or imprisonment.

A Lancaster County man was sentenced to an additional term for using fake Instagram profiles to solicit nude images from minors. He is already serving a 35-year federal sentence for child pornography, created profiles to deceive children into sharing explicit content. He admitted to having a vast collection of child pornography and was charged with multiple felonies related to his actions.
