In related news, online age checks have surged globally, raising concerns about Internet freedom. In the U.S. and U.K., users are often required to verify their age via IDs or facial scans, which promotes child safety but risks compromising privacy for all users.

More than 20 U.S. states have adopted age verification laws for websites. Reddit has implemented age verification checks in the U.K., while Bluesky chose to block access in Mississippi rather than comply with a state law. Critics assert that compulsory age verification systems may lead to a splintered Internet, limiting access based on user identification.

In the hardware sector, Applied Materials remains optimistic about the demand for high-end chipmaking tools, despite recent government investments in foundries like Intel. CFO Brice Hill asserted that while such government support may influence factory locations, it won’t drastically increase overall demand for chip production.
