Meesho, an Indian e-commerce startup, has raised $275 million in a new funding round, bringing its total raised to over $1.2 billion. The company, valued at about $3.9 billion, has 150 million transacting users and offers a wide range of goods, focusing on low- to mid-income customers. The funding is part of a larger round expected to exceed $500 million, with backers including Meta, Fidelity, and SoftBank.
Scammers have placed ads on Indian government websites, redirecting visitors to online betting platforms. Around four dozen “gov.in” website links were affected, including those of state police and property tax departments. The issue was reported to India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which has taken it up for action. The method of ad placement and the duration of the scam are unclear.
