ODD, a Japanese startup, has raised $27 million to develop diamond chips for clearing radioactive debris at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The funding will help establish a diamond semiconductor manufacturing facility in Ookuma, with plans to begin operations by summer 2026. Diamond semiconductors are preferred over silicon due to their superior thermal management and power efficiency, making them suitable for high-temperature and radiation environments.
The Leapmotor C10 has officially launched in Malaysia, marking the entry of this electric vehicle brand into the market. Priced at RM149,000 during the introductory period, the C10 features a 214hp electric motor and a range of 424 km. It comes with a 6-year warranty and includes advanced features like Vehicle-to-Load capability, allowing it to power external devices.
Tech Explained
Diamond Semiconductors – Diamond semiconductors are semiconductor materials made from diamond, known for their superior thermal management and power efficiency compared to traditional silicon semiconductors.
Electric Vehicle – An electric vehicle is a vehicle that runs on electricity stored in batteries, rather than gasoline or diesel. They are environmentally friendly and help reduce carbon emissions.
Vehicle-to-Load Capability – Vehicle-to-Load capability allows an electric vehicle to discharge its battery to power external devices, such as homes or other electric vehicles, providing flexibility and energy resilience.
Warranty – A warranty is a guarantee provided by a manufacturer or seller that ensures the product will meet certain standards and will be repaired or replaced if necessary within a specified period. A 6-year warranty offers extended coverage for the electric vehicle.
