Session 3 – AI Assistant: The Basics

We just wrapped up an awesome workshop on creating custom GPTs, and we have some exciting insights to share! This session was all about turning ChatGPT into your personal AI assistant, and we learned some pretty cool stuff. Let’s dive into what went down!
What We Covered
The workshop focused on creating custom GPTs – think of them as specialized AI assistants that can help with specific tasks. Unlike regular ChatGPT where you have to explain what you want every time, these custom assistants remember their instructions and can get straight to business. Pretty neat, right?
The Good Stuff
First up, creating a custom GPT isn’t rocket science (thank goodness!). Here’s what we learned:
- You start by giving your GPT a clear role and purpose. Want it to be a marketing expert? A food guide? A research assistant? You’re the boss!
- The secret sauce is in the instructions. We use something called the RCTO formula:
- Role (who your GPT is)
- Context (what situation it’s working in)
- Task (what it needs to do)
- Output (how it should present information)
- Here’s a cool trick we discovered: Ask your GPT to cite its sources! This makes it way more reliable and trustworthy. Just add “Cite the source of your info such as chapter and page” to your instructions.
- You can even upload documents to your GPT! This is super handy for creating assistants that can answer questions about specific content, like company policies or technical guides.
Real-World Applications We Explored
We saw some awesome examples in action:
- A food guide GPT that recommends local dishes
- A marketing trends analyzer that gives real-time insights
- A document reviewer that provides detailed feedback
- A fact-checker that verifies news with cited sources
