Casio is marking the 40th anniversary of *Back to the Future* with the re-release of its iconic calculator watch. The new CA-500WEBF-1A model features design elements inspired by the DeLorean, such as a keypad mimicking the vehicle’s time circuits and a flux capacitor engraving on the back.
In another development, Apple faces challenges within its artificial intelligence division as Ke Yang, the newly appointed head of its AI search effort, is leaving for Meta. This marks another significant exit, heightening concerns over Apple’s ability to compete in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s major telecom operators, Turkcell, Vodafone, and Turk Telekom, have successfully secured key frequency blocks in the country’s $2.95 billion 5G spectrum auction. The awarded frequencies are essential for the rollout of 5G services, expected to begin in April next year.
The new 5G spectrum tender not only allocated frequencies but also extended the usage rights of previous-generation networks until 2042. This decision aims to enhance network capabilities while ensuring operators are well-prepared for the multi-year investment into 5G technology.
Further shaking the AI community, several top researchers from Apple’s AI team, including lead scientist Ruoming Pang, have transitioned to Meta, which is developing its group called Superintelligence Labs. This shift indicates increasing instability within Apple’s AI ranks amidst growing competitive pressure.
Additionally, the revamped Siri features are being meticulously developed to compete with search giants like OpenAI and Google. The new AI-driven Assistant will integrate web information and personal data capabilities, marking a significant upgrade over previous versions.
