Google recently reported that a single text prompt to its AI software, Gemini, uses approximately 0.24 watt-hours of electricity, equivalent to just under nine seconds of TV. This revelation highlights ongoing concerns about the energy consumption associated with artificial intelligence applications and their impacts on sustainability.

In a related note, OpenAI had previously estimated that an average AI prompt consumes around 0.34 watt-hours, roughly comparable to running an oven for a second. The power demand for AI technologies continues to rise sharply due to both the volume of usage and the energy needed for training AI models, which is not included in these figures.

On another front, YouTube Music celebrated its 10th anniversary by introducing innovative features such as “taste match” playlists. These shared playlists adapt daily based on the collective listening habits of participants, similar to Spotify’s Blend, enhancing the social experience of music discovery.
