Roblox, the beloved gaming platform for kids, is rolling out an open-source AI system named Sentinel, aimed at detecting predatory language in chats. This initiative responds to increasing lawsuits and criticism regarding the company’s safety measures for children navigating the platform’s chat features.

The Sentinel system enhances child safety by analyzing six billion messages daily to identify harmful patterns of language. Recognizing that predatory behavior often develops over long conversations, Roblox has developed comprehensive tools that monitor interactions beyond individual messages, marking a significant step in enhancing user safety.

In parallel, Pinterest faced a major setback as its shares plummeted approximately 15% following a warning of reduced advertising revenue in the U.S., its largest market. The removal of the “de minimis” trade loophole led some Asian e-commerce firms to cut U.S. marketing budgets, driving ad rates down and prompting concerns about Pinterest’s growth potential.

GlobalWafers, a major silicon wafer supplier, has secured over $200 million from the U.S. CHIPS Act to support its projects in Texas and Missouri. This funding, part of a larger grant, aims to significantly boost domestic silicon wafer production amidst changes in U.S. trade and technology policies.

Despite the grant, investor concerns linger regarding the broader implications of tariffs and trade regulations on GlobalWafers’ operations. The company is well-positioned to meet increasing U.S. demand, especially with its new partnership with Apple to supply 300mm silicon wafers from its Texas facility.

Lastly, while Pinterest struggles with user growth, adding only eight million users in the past quarter, it has aggressively invested in shopping tools and personalization features to enhance engagement. However, these initiatives have led to increased costs, straining their financial performance as profits fell below expectations.
