Stripe Announces Layoffs Yet Plans Major Workforce Growth

Fintech giant Stripe is undergoing layoffs, with 300 employees affected, primarily from product, engineering, and operations roles, as detailed in a leaked memo. Despite the cuts, Stripe plans to grow its workforce by 17% in 2025, setting an ambitious target to reach approximately 10,000 employees by year’s end. Last November, Stripe had already reduced its workforce by 14%.

In the gaming sector, Balatro achieved a remarkable feat by selling over 1 million copies since December, pushing total sales to 5 million units in its first year. The surge in sales is attributed to its significant exposure during The Game Awards, where it was nominated for Game of the Year, winning multiple categories. The developer, LocalThunk, has hinted at an upcoming major gameplay update after the game’s successful debut.

Amidst TikTok’s weathered position in the U.S. market, Meta is capitalizing on the opportunity by enticing TikTok creators with bonuses of up to $5,000 and content deals to post on Facebook and Instagram. These initiatives aim to attract creators as TikTok faces uncertainty, including a 12-hour outage and potential bans. Meta is enhancing its Reels offering, allowing longer video formats and improving visibility on its platforms.

Furthermore, Meta is developing new content creation tools, including features resembling CapCut’s capabilities. TikTok has faced app store issues and legal scrutiny related to bans in several countries, contributing to uncertainty about its operations.
