Mah Sing has announced the establishment of a data centre hub in Southville City, Bangi, with Bridge Data Centres (BDC) as its first partner. The project, named Mah Sing DC Hub@Southville City, will occupy 150 acres of the 428-acre township. The hub aims to leverage its strategic location near Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, and TM’s Morib cable landing station to attract tech corporations, telcos, and financial institutions, especially those involved in AI computation and large-scale data storage.
Malaysia aims to invest over US$100 billion in its semiconductor industry as part of the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS). The plan includes establishing at least 10 local companies in design and advanced packaging, and at least 100 semiconductor-related companies to create job opportunities. The government has allocated S$7 billion in fiscal support to boost the NSS, aiming to attract investment and improve the semiconductor ecosystem. The strategy also includes building Southeast Asia’s largest integrated circuit design park and attracting major semiconductor packaging and testing companies like Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) to Malaysia.
Malaysia Airlines is set to receive its first Airbus A330-900 (A330neo) in Q3 2024 as part of its fleet modernization. The airline has ordered a total of 20 A330neos, with the first aircraft currently in the final assembly phase in Toulouse, France. The A330neo will feature an all-new cabin layout based on Airbus’ Airspace design, with 297 seats, including 28 in Business Class. The aircraft aims to improve operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 25%.
SpaceX plans to launch its Starship rocket for the fourth time on June 5, focusing on testing the second stage’s reusable heat shield during reentry. CEO Elon Musk highlighted the challenge of creating a reusable orbital return heat shield, which has never been done before. The test will evaluate the heat shield composed of around 18,000 ceramic hexagonal tiles designed to protect the vehicle from extreme temperatures during reentry. A successful test could move SpaceX closer to achieving full reusability of its launch vehicles.
