Trademark Turmoil: Wex Inc. Sues HP Over Name Infringement

Wex Inc. has filed a lawsuit against HP Inc. in Maine federal court for trademark infringement, claiming HP’s use of the “Wex” name for its “HP Wex” workforce-management platform will confuse customers. Wex, specializing in payment-processing and information-management applications, seeks unspecified monetary damages and an order to stop HP from using the “Wex” name. HP has not yet responded to the complaint.

Windfall Bio, a startup focusing on methane-eating microbes, has raised a $28 million Series A round to expand its commercialization efforts. The funding, led by Prelude Ventures with participation from Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund and others, aims to tackle methane emissions in industries like agriculture, oil and gas, and landfills by converting methane into fertilizer. The company has seen high demand since emerging from stealth in March 2023.

Viettel has opened a new 30 MW data centre in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, Hanoi, Vietnam. The facility, the largest in the country, spans over 21,000 square meters with more than 2,400 racks. Viettel plans to expand its scale to 34,000 racks by 2030 and build at least three more data centres in the next two years. The data centre aims to meet rising AI demands and has been awarded green certificates for its commitment to using renewable energy.

At the Google Cloud Next event in Las Vegas, Google emphasized generative AI, showcasing enhancements across its platform to leverage the Gemini large language model (LLM). Despite the focus on AI, some attendees noted the lack of attention to Google’s core cloud infrastructure and platform services. The event highlighted the potential of generative AI but also underscored the challenges companies may face in implementing these technologies.
