Microsoft is addressing long-standing complaints regarding dark mode in Windows 11 by enhancing consistency across File Explorer. With new updates, users can now experience uniformity in the appearance of dialogs while performing actions such as copying, moving, or deleting files.

Previously, Windows 11 would display a light mode dialog for certain operations even when dark mode was activated. However, Microsoft is now working to ensure that all aspects of File Explorer, including progress bars and error prompts, align with the dark mode theme.

Shifting to the world of open-source electronics, Qualcomm has announced its acquisition of Arduino, the innovative platform known for its DIY electronics boards. The company assures that Arduino will maintain its independence while continuing to develop microcontrollers and microprocessors using chips from various manufacturers.

As part of this acquisition, Arduino unveiled the Uno Q, a new board similar to Raspberry Pi, which integrates Qualcomm’s Dragonwing QRB2210 processor. This board supports Linux Debian and offers capabilities for running AI models, making it a versatile tool for developers and hobbyists alike.

The Uno Q, priced at $44, is ready for pre-order, and it features Arduino’s new App Lab for managing sketches, scripts, and AI models. This initiative is set to empower Arduino’s sizable community of over 33 million users, blending open-source principles with Qualcomm’s advanced technologies for more efficient solution development.

In conjunction with these developments, Arduino’s CEO emphasized the importance of creating user-friendly tools for AI development, allowing a broader audience to engage with this rapidly-evolving technology.

Tech Explained

Dark Mode – Dark mode is a user interface option that employs a dark color scheme for graphical elements on the screen. It reduces eye strain in low-light environments and can enhance battery efficiency on OLED screens by minimizing pixel illumination.

File Explorer – File Explorer is a file management application included in Windows operating systems. It provides a graphical interface for users to navigate, organize, and manage files and directories on their devices.

Open-source Hardware – Open-source hardware refers to physical artifacts of technology that are made available for anyone to study, modify, and create. Arduino exemplifies this concept by providing accessible designs for electronics that users can freely use and adapt.

Microcontroller – A microcontroller is a compact integrated circuit designed to govern a specific operation in an embedded system. It often includes a processor, memory, and input/output peripherals, thus serving as the brain of devices like Arduino boards.
