Spanish telecom giant Telefónica is currently engaged in exclusive negotiations to sell its Mexican business unit to Beyond ONE, which owns Virgin Mobile Latin America. The potential deal is estimated to be worth approximately €520 million. Telefónica aims to refocus on four core markets, Spain, Brazil, Germany, and the UK, as part of a broader strategic realignment, with CEO Marc Murtra expected to unveil the new plan later this year.

In Malaysia, four leading Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge Point Operators (CPOs) – chargEV, DC Handal, JomCharge, and Carput Zap – have announced the formation of the eRoaming Hub Alliance. This collaboration aims to develop a unified platform that simplifies access to EV charging stations through a single app, addressing the fragmented nature of EV charging networks in the country.

The Alliance also seeks to improve visibility and price transparency across participating networks and encourages other CPOs to join. The initiative supports Malaysia’s growing adoption of electric vehicles and mirrors successful international interoperability models.

Telecom – A sector involving the transmission of information over significant distances through electronic means. Companies in this field provide services such as voice communication, internet access, and data transmission through various technologies.

MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) – A type of mobile provider that does not own its own network infrastructure. Instead, an MVNO buys wholesale access to network services from existing telecom providers and resells them to customers under its own brand.

Antitrust – Laws and regulations intended to promote competition and prevent monopolies in the marketplace. An antitrust commission monitors business activities to ensure fairness and prevent anti-competitive behavior that could harm consumers or the market.

CPO (Charge Point Operator) – A company that manages electric vehicle charging stations. CPOs are responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining the infrastructure to support electric vehicle charging, facilitating users’ access to power.

Electric Vehicle (EV) – A vehicle that is powered entirely or partially by electricity. EVs can be charged via a power outlet or charging station, offering an alternative to conventional gasoline or diesel vehicles, contributing to reduced emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.
