Firefly Aerospace is set to acquire national security technology company SciTec for approximately $855 million. The acquisition will enhance Firefly’s space services with SciTec’s defense software capabilities, which include missile warning and tracking, bolstering its position in the growing military-space sector.
In a related development, Firefly recently faced challenges, including the destruction of its Alpha rocket booster during testing. This incident followed the failure of an Alpha rocket mission in late April, highlighting the hurdles the company has had to overcome after its impressive Nasdaq debut earlier this year, which saw its shares surge 55.6%.
Meanwhile, French prosecutors are investigating Apple’s Siri following a complaint from tech researcher Thomas Le Bonniec regarding illicit data collection practices. The complaint, filed by the Ligue des Droits de l’Homme, alleges that Siri records and analyzes user conversations without their consent, prompting a criminal probe into the tech giant’s practices.
Amidst this scrutiny, Apple affirmed that it had enhanced Siri’s privacy controls in 2019 and 2021. The company stated that users’ conversations are not sold to advertisers, emphasizing its commitment to user privacy amidst growing concerns regarding data collection in the tech industry.
In another significant move, Dacia has revealed a prototype electric mini-car priced under 15,000 euros, aiming to compete with affordable Chinese EVs. The “Hipster Concept” showcases a bold vision for practical, everyday mobility with its compact design and minimal features aimed at keeping costs low.
Dacia’s Hipster, designed with a maximum speed of 90 km/h and a range of 150 km, is a response to the rising car prices in Europe. The company advocates for a new EU small car category, inspired by Japanese Kei Cars, to enable the production of affordable vehicles by reducing mandatory features.
