JomCharge has made significant strides in expanding electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure by deploying a cluster of EV chargers at Kinabalu Pine Resort in Kundasang, Sabah. This strategic location, only 7km from the entrance of Kinabalu Park, offers a key charging stop for travelers between Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan.
Among the newly installed chargers, the centerpiece is an ABB Terra 360 DC charger, capable of delivering up to 60kW, featuring two CCS2 nozzles for rapid charging. Additionally, the resort boasts two ABB Terra AC charge points, allowing overnight charging at a rate of 11kW, ideal for guests intending to recharge their EVs while enjoying the scenery.
In a broader technological shift, Uber has launched its new senior accounts feature, which includes a larger typeface and simplified navigation. Now available nationwide in the US and select international regions, this development recognizes the growing demographic of senior users who require easier access to ride-hailing services.
These senior accounts also enable users to designate caregivers who can book rides on their behalf and track their locations, enhancing safety and ease of use. Complementing this initiative, Uber offers a Simple Mode for all users who prefer a less complex interface without a family account.
On another front, Paddle and RevenueCat have teamed up to help app developers bypass Apple’s App Store billing system. This integration allows developers to manage subscriptions across different platforms seamlessly, following the Epic v. Apple ruling that permits purchases outside the App Store.
This partnership aims to simplify subscription management for developers, providing essential tools for compliance and performance analytics, which could lead to increased revenues by expanding subscription services to web platforms.
Lastly, Google has delayed the rollout of its “Ask Photos” AI search feature for about two weeks to address issues with latency and user experience. Originally announced during the Google I/O developer conference, this feature uses the Gemini AI model to help users search their Google Photos libraries through natural language, promising a more intuitive interaction once fully optimized.
Tech Explained
Electric Vehicle (EV) – An electric vehicle (EV) is a type of vehicle that uses electric motors for propulsion, drawing energy from rechargeable batteries rather than conventional fuels. The rise of EVs has been driven by advances in battery technology and growing awareness of environmental issues.
CCS2 – CCS2 stands for “Combined Charging System,” a standard for charging electric vehicles. This connector supports both AC and DC charging, enabling faster charging times compared to traditional methods, making it a preferred choice for modern EV infrastructure.
Natural Language Processing (NLP) – Natural Language Processing is a field of artificial intelligence that enables computers to understand, interpret, and generate human language. Google’s “Ask Photos” feature utilizes NLP to allow users to search their photo libraries using everyday language, improving usability and accessibility.
Subscription Revenue – Subscription revenue refers to the income a business generates from customers who pay a recurring fee for access to a service or product. This model is becoming increasingly popular in the app industry, as it allows for predictable revenue and customer engagement.
Compliance – In a business context, compliance refers to the adherence to laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to an organization’s operations. For app developers, managing compliance is crucial when accepting payments and handling user data across different platforms, especially in a global marketplace.
