In a nostalgic revival, Moviefone has announced its return with a new mobile app and a nationally syndicated TV series. Celebrating its 35th anniversary, Moviefone’s app, launching in private beta soon, aims to enhance user experience by allowing searches for showtimes and tickets, along with original video content. The company’s weekly TV series is slated to begin this fall, possibly on networks similar to “Made in Hollywood,” and plans to engage younger viewers through social media influencers.

Meanwhile, Brilliant NextGen has unveiled its second-generation touchscreen smart home control panels, featuring a significant upgrade in processing power. The new panels boast a 4x higher resolution screen and dual-band WiFi to reduce interference. Though no new software features were announced, the improved latency promises better integration with smart devices like Philips Hue lights and Sonos speakers. These panels are available for order, with bundles provided at a discount.

As technology evolves, Brilliant’s advancement comes after its near-collapse in 2024, which saw it purchased by private equity firms. The resilience shown during this challenging phase has led to innovative products aimed at enhancing the smart home experience, as users increasingly seek seamless control.

Tech Explained

Episodic game – An episodic game is delivered in segments or chapters over time rather than in a single complete release. This design allows developers to build storylines gradually, engaging players with ongoing narratives and periodic content updates, as seen with Deltarune.

Mobile app – A mobile app is a software application specifically designed to run on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. The new Moviefone app aims to streamline the movie-going experience by providing users with the ability to access information and services conveniently on their mobile devices.

Touchscreen – A touchscreen is an input device that allows users to interact with a computer interface using touch instead of a physical input method. The second-generation panels from Brilliant utilize advanced touchscreen technology, enhancing user interaction in smart home control.

Dual-bandDual-band refers to a technology that allows devices to operate on two different frequency bands simultaneously, such as 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi. This capability helps improve network performance and reduce interference, which is particularly beneficial for smart home devices.

Streaming mediaStreaming media is a way of delivering content online in real-time without requiring users to download files. The potential for Moviefone to utilize streaming platforms highlights the shift toward digital content consumption and the need for companies to adapt to changing viewer habits.
